TNPSC Recruitment 2018 Vacancy & Post
The commission is looking for eligible candidates for the post of Assistant Engineer (Civil) in the Water Resources Department of PWD as well as Buildings Department of PWD and Highways Department. Apart from it, there are also vacant positions for the post of Assistant Engineer (Electrical) to be recruited in PWD and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. The candidates who are interested can apply through the official web portal of TNPSC through online mode only.
The posts for which the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission has invited online application are specified below –
- (i) Assistant Engineer (AE Civil) to be assimilated in the Water Resources Department, PWD.
- (ii) Assistant Engineer (AE Civil) to be recruited in the Buildings, PWD.
- (iii) Assistant Engineer (AE Civil) for the Highways Department
- (iv) Assistant Engineer (AE Electrical) to be recruited in the PWD
- (v) Assistant Engineer under the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.

Category wise number of vacancies
The number of vacancies under the Tamil Nadu Engineering Service, Tamil Nadu Highways Engineering Service and Tamil Nadu Panchayat Development Services are given below –
- i) 70 no vacancy of Asst. Engineer Civil under Water Resources Department
- ii) 23 no vacancy Asst Engineer Civil under Buildings Department
- iii) 42 no vacancy of Asst Engineer Electrical under PWD
- iv) 160 no vacancy Asst. Engineer Civil under Highways Department
- v) 29 no vacancy of Asst. Engineer under Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
The commission will abide by the rule of reservation laid on by the Government. The category wise distribution of the seats have not been declared yet. It will be announced later.

The commission has announced the date of the Written Examination to recruit the Assistant Engineers in various discipline and departments. The details are given below –

TNPSC AE Exam Date 2018
Paper-I exam date – 20.05.2018 from 10am to 1pm.
Paper-II examination date – 20.05.2018 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
TNPSC AE Eligibility Criteria / Required Educational Qualification
For the posts of Assistant Engineer (AE Civil) in Water Resources Dept, Public Works Department, Buildings, Highway Department and Panchayat Raj Department, a B.E degree / Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering is a must. And for the post of Assistant Engineer Electrical in PWD, a degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics and Communication Engineering is mandatory.
Tamil Nadu Assistant Engineer Salary Structure
The pre-revised pay structure offered by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission for the Assistant Engineer’s post is 9,300 Rs. to 34,800 Rs. with addition to the grade pay of 5,100 Rs. per month.
TNPSC Asst Engineer Age Limit
The specified age limit for the post of Assistant Engineer is 30 years for General Category or Other Category or Unreserved category of candidates. Age will be calculated as on 01.07.2018.
Relaxation in Age –
For the reserved category candidates like SC, ST, MBC, DC, BC, BCM and destitute widows of all castes, there is no specified upper age limit mentioned. This is to be mentioned in this regard that the candidates belonging to the above mentioned reserved or unreserved categories who have worked for 5 years or more under the State or Central Government will not be considered eligible for the post, irrespective of the fact that they are actually within the specified age limit or not.
The differently abled candidates will get an age concession of 10 years above the specified maximum age of Others category.
Tamil Nadu PSC Assistant Engineer Recruitment Examination fees
At first the candidates need to register themselves and this registration will be valid for the tenure of 5 years. Applicants who have already registered themselves in One Time registration system as well as paid 150 Rs. as registration charge, need not to do this again. Then at the time of the submission of the online application, the examination fee of 200 Rs. must be paid. The fees can either be paid through net banking or credit or debit cards or it can be paid offline through the State Bank of India / Indian Bank. Those who belong to the Reserved category, they will be exempted from the payment of the fees.

The interested candidates, after checking the sought eligibility criteria, can apply online using any of the web link –

The period within which one has to apply online is from 28.02.2018 to 26.03.2018 till 11.59pm.
At first, the applicants need to register themselves and if they are already registered under the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, then they will have to fill up the online form carefully and them submit it. The aspirants should also pay the examination fees within the specified time limit.
N.B – Since the candidates will not be allowed to make any changes after the submission of their online application, so they need to be extra cautious while filling up the details of the application.

TNPSC Assistant Engineer (Civil Electrical) Selection Process
The selection of the candidates for the post of Assistant Engineer (AE) will be done by conducting 2 stage examination.
- Written Test / Screening Exam and
At first there will be a written examination and on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the written test, the successful candidates will be shortlisted for the Oral Examination or Interview. The total marks obtained in the written test as well as the oral test will be taken together to form the final merit list. As per the declaration of the Commission, appearing in both the tests is compulsory.
TNPSC AE Admit Card 2018 Download
After sorting the submitted online applications, the eligible candidates will be issued with the e-Admit Card / Hall Ticket prior to the commencement of the test. It will be uploaded to the website of the commission. The candidates must download the Admit Card from the web portal and take a print of it. The hard copy must be carried to the examination hall on the day of the test. As the date of issuing the Admit Card has not been mentioned, so the candidates must keep checking the website of TNPSC at regular interval.
TNPSC AE Result 2018
The result of the recruitment examination will be available on the website of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. The candidates will be able to check it from there, providing their roll number and or other details.
